A reread. The novel takes the form of a brief encyclopedia of literary fascist cranks. My purpose in reading it again was to reexamine the scope of the entries and how they built to a whole. I fear I spent more time laughing out loud than examining. About ten years ago this book made me fall in love with Bolaño’s writing — his perspective, foremost. I’m no less enamored now.
