CORMAC MCCARTHY — CHILD OF GOD

What a mutant. What a god. Can’t believe this guy’s still alive. Can’t really comprehend what it must have been like for a humble/mortal reader in the ’70s or ’80s to stumble into Cormac McCarthy’s overgrown realm… before knowing Cormac McCarthy the Legend, back when his style must have seemed sourceless. A monolith that just appeared. An early work like this (pre-Horses trilogy) makes me only slightly more convinced that this prose came from a human being. It’s still hard to square.
